Had an interesting thought today.
I was listening to the book of Acts today when in the middle of the story of Ananias and Sapphira, a funny thought came up. I don’t remember exactly how it went down when Ananias died, but when his wife came in and Peter asked her if this was the full amount they received for the land, and she said yes, Peter’s like, “How dare you…” Then he says you will now die like your husband just did. Then she falls to the ground and dies.
It’s clear to me that Peter has the power and authority of the Holy Spirit in him, so no question about that. I’m not saying it was wrong for him to do that, but isn’t it interesting how he said “You will now die…” and then she collapses. I’m comparing this to all the other situations when he says, “In Jesus name, I command you to come out of her” (to a demon) or “You will now walk in Jesus name.” God gives us power and authority since Holy Spirit is literally living inside of us. So it all makes sense.
But it’s interesting ‘cause it wasn’t like after she spoke, a voice from heaven came in and said “You will now die…”; it was Peter! Peter had the authority, he spoke it out, and she collapsed.
And nowadays, we are taught to speak out with authority and declare in Jesus’ name healing, deliverance, joy, etc. But never are we taught or instructed to listen for the Holy Spirit to have someone die by his power.
I mean possibly, this could happen somewhere, but at least I’ve never heard of it.
Today’s Christian culture is all about living in grace and being the uplifting, loving children of God. But it was that way in the story too. It was after Jesus died for our sins. In the book of Acts, when signs and wonders were crazy all over.
I’m just writing what popped up into my head. This is not a debate or controversial topic of any sort. Just my brains spilling out some thoughts of wonder.
Okay, good night.
